Proper arrangement of filter media ensures optimal filtration and water clarity in your aquarium. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Top Basket – Activated Carbon
Place activated carbon in the top basket. It effectively adsorbs toxins, odours, and discolouration, improving water clarity.Middle Basket – Bio Balls
Add bio balls to the middle basket. These provide a large surface area for beneficial bacteria, aiding in the breakdown of ammonia and nitrites.Bottom Basket – Ceramic Rings
Place ceramic rings in the bottom basket. Their porous structure offers additional surface area for bacterial colonisation, enhancing biological filtration.Foam Pads
Foam pads can be placed either at the top or bottom of the media stack, depending on your filter's design. They serve as mechanical filtration, trapping larger debris. Alternatively, stacking them at the top can facilitate easier maintenance.
Note: If your filter has four trays, you can distribute the bio balls between two trays or fill the remaining space with additional media of your choice.
