If your aquarium heater has stopped working, follow these checks to identify and resolve common issues:

  1. Submersion & Setup

    • Ensure the heater is fully submerged in the aquarium water.

    • You should be able to see the heating coils glowing faintly red inside the glass tube when it is active.

  2. Inspection

    • Examine the glass tube for any hairline cracks or damage.

    • Confirm that the top of the heater is completely sealed and that the power cable and connection are intact.

  3. Operation

    • When the heater is running, you may notice an indicator light and a faint clicking sound as the thermostat activates.

    • The light will switch off once the tank reaches the set temperature and will turn on again as the water cools.

  4. Correct Sizing

    • Ensure your heater is appropriately sized for your aquarium volume.

    • General rule: 1 watt of heater power per 1 litre of aquarium water.

    • An undersized heater may seem faulty if it cannot heat the tank effectively.
