If your aquarium’s internal filter is making noise, there are a few things you can check to diagnose and resolve the issue.

Important: Always disconnect the mains electricity supply before handling or performing maintenance on your filter. Be sure to also consult the troubleshooting section of your product's instruction manual.

Steps to Check Your Internal Filter:

  1. Inspect the Impeller and Shaft:

    • Open the unit and check the impeller and shaft for any signs of damage, blockages, or clogs. These parts are crucial for the proper functioning of the filter.
  2. Examine the Motor Head:

    • Remove the motor head and check that the impeller and shaft are intact, unblocked, and correctly in place.
  3. Check the Impeller’s Plastic Propeller:

    • Ensure the plastic propeller part of the impeller is securely attached to the magnetic part. They should not be loose, split, or come apart.
  4. Check the Rubber Grommets:

    • Confirm that the two rubber grommets are fitted on each end of the shaft, or inside the fittings. These help reduce vibration and noise.

If everything appears intact, reassemble the unit.

Noise Levels:

  • Some noise is expected from motorised filters, but it should only be a continuous low hum. If the noise is excessive, it’s likely caused by an issue with the impeller or shaft.
  • If you need to order a replacement impeller and shaft, you can find these parts on our website.

Additional Tip:

To reduce vibration sounds, consider adding a small amount of foam cushioning between the filter and the surface it rests on. This can help absorb vibrations and minimise noise.
